Today is the birthday of Reza Shah Pahlavi, the overthrower of the last shah of the Qajar dynasty and founder of Iran's Pahlavi Dynasty.

Born in the year 1878, Reza Shah established an authoritarian government that valued nationalism, militarism, secularism and anti-communism

He ruled Iran from 1925 until he was forced to abdicate by the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran on Sept. 17, 1941 by British and Soviet forces, in

retaliation for his declaration of neutrality in World War II.
